Today, Lawman Guitars is Presenting..
A very unique and RARE 1930’s Oahu Stromberg Guitar. This extremely RARE guitar has an arched top, slightly arched back, yet it has a round sound hole. 14 frets to the body and its considered a Jumbo. Substantial repairs but mostly original and comes with the original Lifton Hard Shell Case. What a find!
Oahu and Bronson guitars are closely related. They were started by half brothers (Oahu) who later split up into the two companies. Their guitars were Chicago made, by Regal, Stromberg-Voisinet or the Kay Custom Shop (in which the top end guitars were made by old world immigrants who had made guitars in Europe). An Oahu of this quality is extremely rare; most were student grade or lap steel guitars for the Hawaiian music craze in those days.
This cool Oahu guitar is very high quality from the typical Oahu Guitars I have found. Solid Spruce Top, Rosewood back and sides that are just beautiful. The Mahogany neck has a Rosewood overlay on the headstock and has the hand inlaid Pearl like inlays. Beautiful inlays as fret markers as well. The bridge has obviously been replace yet the tailpiece is original except the end piece had broke over the years an and a replacement was installed. see pic 4. The frets are in fantastic shape. The Kluson Patent Pending Tuners are in incredible shape as are the cool Tuner Covers. Those help date the guitar to the 1930’s.
The guitar is x- braced and sounds wonderful. There is a previously repaired area on the top that shows the mismatched finish. See pic 5. Great work that we inspected and decided is in fine shape. The finish was either worn or sanded off the back of the neck. It is very smooth and feels great in the hand… Our Techs set the guitar up with new 12 gauge Phosphorus Bronze strings. It plays great with effortless fingering with great action on the neck.
This Parlor guitar weighs just 5 lbs 5 ozs and has a nice soft U shaped neck. The nut measures 1 ¾ inches. The finger pickers out there will love this one. It has a 25.5 inch scale neck and as previously noted, the neck joins the body at the 14th fret. Body is 15.5 inches at the lower bout and measures 41 inches overall. Very nice woody sound that is quite pronounced for an archtop guitar. I was surprised at the volume it produces. Must be the round hole vs. the standard F Hole configuration.
The original Lifton case is as nice as the guitar. All latches, hinges, and leather handle are still with it and operating properly. Even the accessory box is still there with the lid firmly attached. A great case for this wonderful guitar.
Sold as-is as its vintage and used.. However, I have been hand picking my customers guitars for over 18 years now and they all loved the guitars I found them. This beautiful Oahu will certainly not be an exception.
Thanks for checking out our cool guitars.
