The serial number date starting with 6 dates this guitar from 1970 to 1975. I was told this one is a 1974… I am saying this guitar is dating from 1972 to as late as 1975.
Heres some cool information about the Gibson Les Paul Recording Guitar…
The Les Paul Recording guitar was a replacement for the Les Paul Personal and Les Paul Professional that launched in 1971. All three Les Pauls were designed to incorporate innovative electronic features, and included by two oblong plastic-covered pickups and a more rounded cutaway horn. In addition to the phase control found on the Professional and Personal, the Recording added a high/low impedance selector with an internal transistor and did away with the XLR output jack. This guitar carries the distinction of being the Les Paul of choice of Les Paul himself.
Years of Production: 1971 - 1980
Body Style: Single cutaway solidbody
Wood Composition: Mahogany body, Rosewood fingerboard
Design Elements: Two oblong low-impedance pickups, trapezoid inlays, four control knobs, phase switch, tone selector switch, high/low impedance selector, bound fingerboard, stopbar tailpiece and Tune-o-matic bridge
Finish Specifications: Walnut was the standard finish on the Les Paul Recording.
Notable Players: Les Paul
This guitar is all original including the case!...the guitar is in very good shape as is the pickguard and tuners.. All the knobs, tailpiece, Bridge, Tailpiece, strap buttons..you name it...all original and in great shape. Only superficial dings here and there. Nice finish crazing..this guitar has been played but taken care of..
These guitars have lots of controls..and its a Les Paul so its heavy. It weighs 10 lbs 10 ozs...the original nut measures 1 11/16 inch... 24 1/2 inch scale neck!
The controls take some getting used to. It has an out of Phase switch that allows in Phase or out of Phase. I believe it works in the middle position. It has a 3 way pickup selector switch, tone knobs with 3 settings and another tone knob that works in a couple of the selector settings. A lot of options for tonal settings on this cool guitar. AND, they all work properly!
I even have the original Hard Shell Case. Its as nice as the guitar. I didn't try to get Bryant off the case. I'll leave that job for the new owner...Two clasps working and 2 are not...the two hold the case closed well... Beautiful Burgandy Plush interior and even the accessory box is still in the case! Check those pics..
There is nothing that detracts from the big booming sound of this cool guitar...It has super super low action and it sounds HUGE....If you have never heard these Pickups...you are in for a treat...They sound great!!..
It looks good, sounds good, and plays good... it will all be pro-packed by yours truly...I do this a lot and have not had one complaint.... It has a few nicks and scratches as seen in the pics but it is a solid 8.5 out of 10 Guitar.. But on a cool scale...its an 12 !!!!!!
.....Now this guitar is beautiful but given its age it is sold as-is and is not returnable, but will not disappoint the lucky buyer..I have been hand picking my customers guitars for over 18 years now and they have all loved the instruments I find for them…This one will be no exception... ...
Thanks for checking out our cool guitars!
