Today, Lawman Guitars is Presenting…
A really cool 1928 Stromberg-Voisinet Hawaiian Scene guitar. It comes with the original Soft Shell Case. What beauty.
This 20th Century guitar hung forever in a since close guitar shop here in Des Moines and needed a lot of attention. We were happy to provide that for this historic beautiful guitar. It required a complete neck off reset, a new bone nut, a new bridge made, (I don’t know of many of these that had the originals servive), a couple of pieces of missing neck binding replaced and a complete setup. This cool guitar now plays as well as it looks. Beautiful Hawaiian Scene on the top with no body cracks to deal with! What a great guitar.
Here’s some info we found on the internet regarding these cool guitars…
Stromberg-Voisinet was one of numerous companies that built fretted instruments in Chicago in the early part of the 20th century. Like Regal, Harmony and most of their other competitors, Stromberg-Voisinet made relatively inexpensive instruments that were designed to be sold through catalogs. 1920s Stromberg-Voisinet instruments were very well made, given their cheap prices, and they generally had a unique approach to design. Today’s Catch was made sometime in the mid-1920s, at the height of America’s infatuation with all things Hawaiian.
This cool guitar has a celluloid Mother of Toilet Seat Fretboard and pickguard. The pickguard was coming loose so we took it completely off and re-glued it properly. As stated before, the original bridge was completely wasted so instead of buying a stock replacement, we had a new bridge fashioned in the style as the original from a piece of ebony. It looks just like the original and works as it should. Bridge pins were also replaced.
The tuners are original and work as they should. I especially like the cool open headstock look from the front but closed on the back. I have not seen that feature on other guitars. It looks really clean from the back with the Stromberg style headstock design. The guitar has a 24 ¼ inch scale neck and the nut measures 1 ¾ inchs. The body is 13 ¼ inch wide at the lower bout and 37 ¼ inches long. A Parlor sized guitar.
The guitar plays as nice as looks. Nice low easy playing action now. It’s a pleasure to play and to hear. I was struck as to how loud this little parlor guitar is. Suprising volume that can be dialed down with finger picking to give this guitar both a bold and sweet sound as desired. The guitar is super lightweight. It only weighs 2 lbs 10 ozs. I don’t think we have ever had a guitar here that weighed less than 3 lbs!
The guitar ships in the shown original soft shell case that is as nice as the guitar. All latches, hinges and original leather handle work properly. A really nice case for this beautiful guitar.
Sold as-is no returns as its vintage and used. However, I have been hand picking my customers instruments for over 20 years now and my customer have loved the guitars I found for them. This cool Stromberg-Voisinet will certainly not be an exception.
Thanks for checking out our cool guitars.
