Today, Lawman Guitars is Presenting..
A really cool 1930’s Slingerland May Bell Style O Slot Headstock Parlor Guitar. Its in great shape…now…We had Jeff the Tech go over this one and he reset the neck, it was coming off, and reglued the bridge..it was also coming off. The body is in great shape and it plays and sounds great now. Very loud! These cool guitars have a very distinct woody tone…
Yes, Slingerland used to make guitars as well as drums. This one was identified as a Style O from the 13 inch wide body, birch body construction, Ebony fretboard on a Maple neck, Slot Headstock and stock tuners. It has a 24 inch scale neck and a 1 ¾ inch original wood nut. Finger Pickers love these and slide on them sound ridiculous… they are really cool guitars! Check out the pic of the May Bell Logo. Its in incredible shape!
Jeff the Tech did a great job on the neck reset. There was some previous damage to the neck heel that he cleaned up with the reset. It plays incredibly well for a guitar of this vintage. It was unplayable when we got it. No sore fingers playing this beauty now!
The guitar has the original Wood nut, bridge and Tuners. More about the original case later.
The guitar has a nice medium C neck profile. It is no V shaped at all. Very comfortable player with a nice wide 1 ¾ inch nut.
The Overall length of this cool guitar is 36 7/8 inch, 13 inch wide at lower bout, 9 1/2 inch upper bout and 3 1/8 leading to 3 3/4 inch depth at the lower side.. Very clean overall, very little wear and no cracks evident.. Bridge looks original as does the nut. Neck has been reset and playability is excellent. Excellent Condition for a guitar of this vintage.
Check out the original case we have with it. Great case for its age. Yes, its worn and a little tattered, but the latches, hinges and original leather handle are still with it. We reinforced some the edge breaks. The purple interior is still quite nice as well as the accessory box. Really nice vintage case from the 1930’s!
Really cool guitar but used and vintage so its sold as-is no returns. However, I have been hand picking my customers instruments for them for over 20 years now and they have all loved the guitars I find for them. This cool May Bell Guitar will certainly not be an exception..
Thanks for checking out our cool guitars.
