Today, Lawman Guitars is Presenting…
A very rare and historic Gibson guitar. First year for Gibson making this 1942 Banner Headstock LG-2 shown with an older Gibson Soft Shell Case. The Gibson Banner headstock is named for the Gibson logo.. “Only a Gibson is Good Enough” ….proudly emblazed in gold. Incredible guitar. Check those pics!
This guitar is awesome. We got it from a touring musician that lovingly played it and traveled with it in a Carlton Flight Case. It was very well cared for. He had the frets polished and crowned, and it was well set up Professionally. We uninstalled the preamp pickup system and replaced the input jack end pin with a proper looking replacement. The Velcro strips inside the guitar for the pickup system were left should the next owner desire to amplify this amazing guitar. The previous owner installed a strap button and there is evidence of a small lacquer run across the back of the neck at the headstock. Hard to see and impossible to take a pic but its there and is unobtrusive.
The guitar plays beautifully with easy playing low action. It’s a dream to play. The guitar is bright with excellent mid range tones that I certainly didn’t get tired of hearing. It sounds wonderful. Nice and crisp as all of the Gibson Prewar Guitars give you. If you haven’t had the pleasure of playing and hearing one of these, prepare yourself to be impressed!
The guitar has the original tuners, nut, original bridge and what appears to be original bridge saddle, replaced bridge pins but they are old, original pickguard which is not showing any signs of lifting and all original binding. The guitar has awesome beautiful finish crazing over the top and back. The Spruce top is perfectly flat with no signs of bellying. The bridge is tight to the body as you would want to see. Again, the neck angle is perfect. The guitar plays like a dream! It appears that the neck was Professionally reset at some point in its life. They don’t play this well from the factory and certainly not this well after all these years. No sore fingers with this guitar!
Heres some information from Reverb.com regarding these incredible guitars…
Introduced in 1942, the LG-2 was part of the same series as the LG-1 and LG-3 (and the later LG-0). The LG-2 is considered much more desirable than the LG-1 or LG-0 due in part to its use of x-style top bracing. From 1942 to about 1946, the LG-2 used Gibon's "Only a Gibson is Good enough" banner logo on the headstock. Examples with the banner logo are more desirable.
Years of Production: 1942 - 1962
Unique to this Era: "Only a Gibson is Good enough" banner logo on the headstock from roughly '42 to '46
Wood Composition: Maple back and sides, Spruce top, Rosewood fingerboard
Design Elements: Dot inlays, x-bracing, 24 3/4-inch scale length, long pointed pickguard
Notable Players: Arlo Guthrie
The guitar is wonderful and we paired it with a proper fitting older Gibson Soft Shell Case. It fits the guitar great and will be an excellent home for this guitar. All latches, hinges and original handle are present and operating. The accessory box is still with it and the Gibson brown interior is very nice. Nice case.
This guitar is incredible but used and vintage so it is sold as-is no returns. However..I have been hand picking my customers instruments for over 20 years now and they all loved the guitars I found for them. This beautiful Gibson Banner LG-2 will certainly not be an exception.
Thanks for checking out our cool guitars.
