Today, Lawman Guitars is Presenting..
A really cool hard to find 1977 Gibson SG Standard in brown mahaogony with the Ebony Fretboard and a new Hard Shell Case!
I have had this one around quite awhile and have enjoyed it a lot! I just replaced it with a White SG Custom so this, my personal SG has got to go...
Dating these are not the easiest. The serial number dates it to 1964 or 1970- 1979...LOL... The pots date it to 1977 and the harmonica bridge certainly tells us its not from 1964. The T-Top Pickups appear to be original as does all but the tuners. The tuners were replaced with old West Germany Shallers for all but the D Tuner which is a Grover. They all work great and I didn't find a need to replace them. The original frets are still in great shape and all else appears to be original.
There is a wood grain line on the headstock that I initially thought had been a repaired headstock break, but after consulting with my Techs, it was determined to be a grain marking. See pic 11.
The guitar has new strings and a recent setup that makes it play great. The action is set for playing and bending ease. No sore fingers with this cool guitar!
This guitar has been played.. a lot. The original nitro finish is almost all worn off from player wear. It looks really cool and certainly speaks to the amount of love and play this guitar has experienced over the years. I played it a lot myself. Loved it!
Here's what Reverb has to say about these cool guitars!
The Gibson SG was introduced in 1961 as a complete replacement for the Les Paul. The new design was thought to be a more modern solidbody guitar, with sleek beveled edges and two sharp cutaways. By late 1963, the Les Paul moniker was dropped, and the SG (or Solid Guitar) became an entirely separate model. The SG has remained in steady production ever since earning a place as one of the truly classic solidbody guitars.
Years of Production: 1961 - present (with some changes in name)
Body Style: Dual cutaway solidbody
Wood Composition: Mahogany body, Mahogany neck, Rosewood fingerboard
Design Elements: Dual humbucker pickups, two volume and two control knobs, stopbar tailpiece with large tune-o-matic bridge, 24.75-inch scale length, set neck, tune-o-matic bridge
Notable Players: Tony Iommi, Angus Young, Derek Trucks, Jeff Tweedy
The guitar is sold with the shown almost brand new Form Fitting SG Case. The original was worn out. This case fits it great and will be a great home for your cool guitar.
This rare guitar is sold as-is no returns, but know that I have been hand picking my customers guitars for over 20 years now. They all loved the guitars I found for them. This cool Gibson will certainly not be an exception.
