Today, Lawman Guitars is Presenting..

A really cool Vintage 1978 Gibson Flattop Guitar. The Primo of the Gibson line, the Gibson Hummingbird Custom in Red Wine with the original Gibson Hard Shell case!

This is a one owner guitar. I picked it up in a shop here in Des Moines Iowa. The original owner bought it in Des Moines and it has spent most of its time in its Case. Check those pics..the frets are hardly used at all!

This guitar is dated to 1978 from the impressed serial number on the back of the neck. It is also stamped Second. That is for some small finish imperfection that is impossible to determine where it is after so many years. I have yet to find why Gibson has marked any second... we have sold many over the years!

Beautiful Spruce Top and Flamed Maple back and sides with the gorgeus Red Wind finish... I had never seen one in this finish before and was love struck...what a beauty!  I only wish my camera would show the beautiful red finish. This guitar is gorgeous! Very few dings. Just a little pick scratching at the pickguard. No buckle rash on the back. This guitar was totally babied!!  Check those pics…
The neck angle is perfect. Very easy playing low action. I have the strings set down quite a bit for my playing preference. No sore fingers with this beauty!
Heres what Reverb has to say about these cool guitars...

With a full complement of ornate cosmetic details, the Gibson Hummingbird was Gibson's second most expensive production acoustic when it premiered in 1960. The Hummingbird deviated from older Gibson dreadnoughts designs in its use of  square shoulders instead of the rounded shoulders found on models like the J-45. Largely due to its striking visual flair, the Hummingbird remains one of Gibson's most iconic acoustics.

Years of Production: 1960 - present

Body Style: Dreadnought

Wood Composition: Mahogany back and sides, Mahogany neck, Spruce top

Design Elements: Square shoulders, long ornate pickguard, deep set neck, adjustable bridge saddle, double parallelogram inlays

Notable Players: John McLoughlin, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards

This guitar sounds as good as it looks. I have never had a Hummingbird before. This one sounds magnificent. I have lots of vintage J45’s and this one sounds much different. Very clean sounding and it’s a CANNON! Very very loud.

Check out the pics of the original Gibson Hard Shell Case. As nice as the guitar. All latches, hinges and original handle are present and operating. The red plush interior is still very nice after all these years. Accessory box still in place and operating as it should. A great case!

Sold as-is no returns as its old and vintage. However, I have been hand picking my customers instruments for over 20 years now and they all loved the guitars I found for them. This beautiful Hummingbird will certainly not be an exception.
Shipping to Australia is extra. Large shipping box.

Thanks for checking out our cool guitars!
